A beautiful late Victorian ruby and diamond navette ring, crafted in 18ct yellow gold and dating from the closing years of the 19th century.

The elongated marquise-shaped face is set with three graduated round rubies, arranged vertically through the centre. Their rich raspberry-red tones are surrounded by a border of characterful rose-cut diamonds, creating the wonderfully romantic contrast of ruby, diamond and warm yellow gold so associated with Victorian jewellery.

The diamonds have the individual character expected of antique hand-cut stones, with softly irregular facets and natural variation from stone to stone. Rather than the uniform brilliance of modern diamonds, they give the ring a distinctive antique sparkle which beautifully complements the deeper colour of the rubies.

The navette-shaped setting is particularly elegant on the hand, giving plenty of presence while retaining a delicate, feminine feel. Decorative split shoulders flow into the slender 18ct gold band and add another lovely period detail when viewed from the side.

This is an authentic antique jewel with the individuality and signs of age that make Victorian pieces so appealing.
